On Friday, September 7th the second annual Multicultural Block Party and Club Fair was held on the academic quad. The event drew hundreds of students who were eager to find opportunitites to get involved in the Siena College community. Sixty different clubs and organizations vied for the attention of students. The purpose of the event was to provide incoming freshmen and returning students with ample opportunity to get involved on campus.
In conjuction with the club fair, there were performers provided by the Office of<> Multicultural Affairs. Several groups showcased the flavor of their culture on stage, ranging from R&B singers to Irish step dancers. Students enjoyed the party-like atmosphere. “I felt like I was at a free rock concert, “ commented a Siena senior. In addition, a barbeque was sponsored by Sodexho. which reminded Kristina Ferrara, the student coordinator of the club fair and Vice President of the Student Senate, of a “big family barbeque.” She adds, “Days like this remind me of why I love Siena. I feel such a sense of school spirit when I see so many of my fellow Siena students come together for an event like the club fair.”
The club fair was a great opportunity for students to interact with each other and with organizations that they may not see on a daily basis. With sixty opportunities to get involved, there was undoubtedly something for everyone. Among the clubs and organizations represented were: the American Marketing Association, Campus Action, the Dance Team, Gaelic Society, the History Club, Karate Club, the Muslim Student Association, the Pendragon, the Republican Club, The Promethean, and WVCR. Habitat for Humanity had the most sign-ups with 360, and the Siena Cheer Team won the prize for the best booth and, ironically, most Siena Spirit.
The club fair and block party left a lasting impression. A freshmen stated “The club fair was very helpful in showing me what to get involved in on campus.”
